American History to 1865

Overview

The "Jacksonian Age" is also known as "the age of the common man" because Andrew Jackson, 7th President of the United States, was the first U.S. President to come from humble origins. During the period from 1829 to 1837 there was considerable controversey over issues such as slavery, indians, westward movement, and the power struggle between the executive and legislative branches of government.
