Columns

All pages must have two or three columns of boxes. See the boxes page for details.

What Makes a Page

Try to break your guide up into discrete topics, each of which merit a page.

Try to avoid having so many pages that your tabs at the top run over to a second row.

When possible, avoid having a guide where each page focuses on how to find a particular format:

  • Books
  • Articles
  • Statistics
  • Websites
  • Videos
  • Images
  • Etc.

Don't have a page that is a junk drawer and labeled something mysterious like:

  • Miscellany
  • More

Naming Pages

  • Keep the page name brief (it shouldn't break to a 2nd line in the tab)
  • Avoid if possible pages that focus on content types ("Books" or "Articles")
  • Think about using words that describe what the student will do; words like finding, searching, using...
