According to the APA, it is a "survey of previously published literature on a particular topic to define and clarify a particular problem; summarize previous investigations; identify relations, contradictions, gaps, and inconsistencies in the literature; and suggest the next step in solving the problem."

What is a scholarly journal article?

Scholarly journals are publications where scholars share the results of their research. Like a magazine, each issue of a scholarly journal contains a collection of articles on different topics.

Scholarly journals are also known as:

  • academic journals
  • peer-reviewed journals

How to find a scholarly journal article

STEP 1: Using the APA PsycInfo database (see link below), enter your search terms

STEP 2: Scroll down to the "Limit your results" section and click the checkbox to select "Peer Reviewed"

STEP 3: Click the "Search button

Two ways to find the "Cite" feature in APA PsycInfo

 

OPTION 1: When you are viewing a list of search results

Click the triple dot icon found in the upper right above of the thing you want to cite.

Then click the "Cite" option that appears in the pop up window.

OPTION 2: When you are viewing the detail page about an item found

Click the "Cite" icon on the upper right part of the page.
