Calculating Ratios
You can calculate ratios using financial data from a company's 10-K report or you can use ratios from many of the resources listed in this guide.
To make sense of the ratios for any company you must compare the ratios to the ratios of similar companies or to the company's own historical ratios or their forecasts.
Finding Financial Statements
You can find financial statements at company websites and at the Securities and Exchange Commisssion's EDGAR database.
If you want to download the balance sheet and income statement into excel, build models, or search the text of reports, use this database:
- Edgar Online's I-MetrixSEC filings with financial statements that can be exported to Excel. Includes XBRL tags used for interactive model building and comparative analysis of companies.
